Elle Harrison: Introducing Involve Interpreter’s Video Editor

I started working at Involve Interpreter in 2021 as their Video Editing Assistant. The time has gone by so quickly! My advice to anyone hoping to get into a video editing role is practice, practice, practice. You’ll only get better by continuing to improve your skillset if you work hard and enjoy what you to. I’m forever trying to build my skills up in photography, filmmaking and video editing; this also helps me mentally as I feel so relaxed and happy when I do them.

My specific job role at Involve Interpreter really stood out to me because not only was it within an area that I was passionate about, but it was also an opportunity to help make video content more accessible for the Deaf community. Since joining the team I’ve been able to work on a lot of exciting projects, but I particularly enjoyed working on the Nordoff Robbin’s Music Therapy concert back in December of 2021. It was such an enjoyable project to work on with the Involve Interpreter team.

I’d have to say that doing my part in helping make Deaf people feel more included when watching video content is the most rewarding part of my job. That and being able to work with my fantastic, supportive team. (Who I have the best nights out with!) They’ve taught me so much during my time at Involve Interpreter, including basic BSL. I’m keen to expand on this and learn even more! I particularly enjoyed the Deaf Awareness training course by Andrew last year.

I also really enjoy working in the Involve Interpreter Video Recording and Editing Studio, which has evolved and improved so much since I first started.

When I was younger, I never imagined I’d have a career in video editing – I wanted to be a zookeeper! I randomly fell into it when I was around 14 just messing around on my dad’s computer. I remember putting together a slideshow of fashion magazine covers together on Windows Movie Maker and my love for video editing was born.

As well as doing the video editing at Involve Interpreter, I’ve recently also got into wedding videography. I’m currently second assisting alongside one of my friends. I’ve always watched wedding films on YouTube as it has always interested me. I particularly admire the work of an American wedding filmmaker, Eric Floberg. His wedding films are always effortlessly placed together and spark wonderful emotions!
