The first 2 days (in Part 1) are face to face – 1 x Friday 1pm to 8pm and 1 x Saturday 9am to 1pm,  followed by 19 evening remote sessions from 4pm to 7pm on Zoom.       

Part 1 includes a mixture of theoretical and practical teaching sessions and includes a TSLI assessment as part of the programme. It also includes all the Signature assessments for Part 1 which are:  4 written preparations, a written Business Plan, a Glossary, a PDP and learning journals that cover 6 months of learning, and an externally marked 3,000 word essay.  
All programme dates, assessment dates and hand in dates are detailed in the Scheme of Work that we hand out on the first session 
  
You must complete and pass Part 1 in order to move onto Part 2. This is a Signature requirement. 
  
To secure a place on Part 1, you will need to undertake a translation exercise, complete a written analysis and we set you a written piece of work where you look at an interpreting dilemma. This is to give us a starting point for your professional development.   
  
If you are on a longer journey, we will support you with your next steps until you are ready to engage with the next Part 2 course. 

To secure a place on Part 2 of the course, we set you a 15 minute interpreting task, to ensure you are ready to start the assessments for Part 2, as these are marked against the National Occupational Standards of Interpreting.

Part 2 is mostly assessment based; however we revisit topics in readiness for each of the Signature assessments .

These are 6 internal assessments and 6 external interpreting and/or translation assessments.  

They include one way interpreting working into BSL and into English, two-way interpreting, simultaneous and consecutive interpreting, sight translations – from BSL to written text and written text to BSL, remote interpreting, and working alone and working as part of a team. We supply all the role play participants, preparation titles and documents and everything you need to undertake the assessment. You need a computer and good wifi  connectivity.  Written work for Part 2 comprises 4 x 2,000 word written evaluations. All programme dates, assessment dates and hand in dates are detailed in the Scheme of Work that we hand out on the first session.
