The Rise of BSL Translation

ACCESSIBILITY IN THE COVID-ERA

2020 was full of challenges and uncertainty for the whole world and accessibility for the deaf and hard of hearing was both challenged and boosted by the world’s number one enemy; COVID-19.

Involve Interpreter was initially inundated with deaf people unable to access basic health care as GP surgeries, clinics and hospitals closed their doors, choosing instead to carry out telephone consultations. For those who are deaf or who struggle to use the phone because of hearing loss; this was a severe blow to both physical and mental wellbeing. However, all was not lost.

With the national lockdown and limited access to services, some organisations still made the effort to ensure accessibility was a priority. Requests for BSL translation videos started to come in regularly and Involve Interpreter was there to meet that need. From education, arts and culture to health and politics, we have been there providing high quality BSL video translations for a range of stakeholders and supporting improved access for BSL users across the UK.

We want to thank our BSL team for a job well done during 2020. If you would like more information about our BSL translations, please visit our website or email: support@involveinterpreter.com

Maximising BSL Access

BSL VIDEO TRANSLATION & EDITING

During 2020, Involve Interpreter saw an unprecedented increase in requests for BSL video translations.

We started in the education sector providing BSL translated school lessons in collaboration with ITV Signpost and The Oak National Academy. It was a challenging project, which ultimately saw the needs of deaf children who use sign language, prioritised along with their peers, during the school’s national lockdown.

We continue to be overwhelmed by the positive feedback we and our partners have recieved. We have proven what it’s possible achieve under pressure. More importantly, it has shown that appropriate measures to include deaf children who use BSL in education, can be met nationally and to a high standard. We hope this move towards inclusivity continues long after COVID is forgotten

Please visit www.thenational.academy to access online education content for Key stages 1-5 in spoken English and British Sign language.

This was not the end of the story for Involve Interpreter who have since launched a professional BSL translation and video editing services.

Customers from a range of sectors have been supported to achieve digital accessibility for deaf BSL users. It has been a huge learning curve for many organisations who were doing this for the first time. But with the support of our expert BSL Team, they received not only great service, but advice and support on how to continue improving accessibility in their organisation.

Not only does it save you money, but managing budgets just got a lot easier. Using our bundle system, customers will be paying the same monthly fee, for the duration of the contract, giving you time back to worry about the big stuff.

If you start using more minutes, no problem, just get in touch and we can easily amend your bundle. Whether your needs are small or large, bespoke bundles ensure you get exactly what you need, when you need it.
