I started working for Involve Interpreter in 2018 as the Resource Manager. As the company grew, I got more involved in different areas of the service. This led to my progression into the role of Operations Manager.

We created Involve Interpreter with the idea of assisting Deaf customers by providing remote video interpretation to facilitate communication with organisations such as the NHS, GPs and local governments. This then expanded into supporting customers who were receiving Access to Work funding and needed VRI assistance whilst they were at work. This evolved into working with event organisers to make their conferences more accessible. We then built our video editing and recording studio so we could film studio quality BSL translation for customers. Finally, our latest addition to the service is our BSL & Deaf Awareness Training. We run virtual classes to provide information to organisations on how best to communicate with Deaf people and how to be Deaf-aware.

It’s great chatting with our interpreting & translation team about our plans for the service and listening to their ideas on how we can improve. I am very fortunate in my job that I get to work with such an amazing and passionate team every day and I think it’s key to involve them in discussions on how we grow. This also means I’m learning something new every day. Each time we work on a new project, there’s something new to learn.

It’s extremely rewarding when our customers send us emails to say how pleased they are with the service we’ve provided. Whether that service is our team providing BSL interpretation at an event, or our translators adding BSL translation to media content; it’s always nice to know we’ve increased accessibility for the Deaf community.

The Involve Interpreter service has grown so much over the years and I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for us.
